World Circle Dance Day actually takes place all over the world on the same day! On each year's page you will see a list of places where there are groups celebrating. You can dance at home or with a group, in a park or anywhere!
World Circle Dance Day is celebrated at the time of day that is most convenient for your group, and we feel the unity no matter what time we actually dance. In 2022 we will dance on Sunday July 10, at your preferred time of day or night.
Anyone can participate by dancing the 3 link up dances, as well as your favorites, alone or in a group. You can see where this year's celebrations are by going to the 2022 List of Celebrations, as well as see the music and videos links for the 3 link up dances for the year.
In 2016 it felt important to start this tradition to help nurture the consciousness of unity, in times when we seem to be in a delicate balance. Can the love and focused intention of people around the world make a difference in the overall Peace and Harmony of the planet?
In Circle Dance we create so much Peace and we want to share it with the world. With World Circle Dance Day we have seen how people mobilize and take action to contribute to the collective. The energy of people working for the well being of all people is uplifting!
Years ago there was one 'link up dance', that used to happen occasionally via an advert in the Grapevine Magazine from England.
Gwyn Peterdi was inspired to start World Circle Dance Day, and inquired with Findhorn and with other international teachers to see if there already was an official day of Circle Dance. There wasn't one that they knew of, although later we learned of an International Day. Anyway, many groups, organizers, and dancers around the world helped spread the word, and there was a great response. World Circle Dance Day continues to grow! Each group small and large contributes to the whole.
We aim to connect, inspire each other, be more aware of where the groups are around the planet, celebrate the movement, invite new people to the circle, and help heal the world.
Generally there are 3 themes for the link up dances: a favorite from Findhorn, A traditional dance, and a modern choreography. In a group of people from Findhorn and beyond, different dances are discussed and chosen for a pertinent theme, degree of easiness, a certain je ne sais quoi, and other factors. The modern choreography is chosen to represent as many different countries as possible over the years, and is often a well known dance. World Circle Dance Day is designed to coincide with the Findhorn Festival of Sacred Music and Dance.
We scheduled World Circle Dance Day to coincide with the Findhorn Festival, and in 2016 and 2017 it was on the first Sunday of July. Then, Findhorn changed the dates of its annual festival. So we changed also, and since then we have been celebrating on the second Sunday in order to coincide with Findhorn.
